Like a proven methodology.
In class, JC Economics Education Centre utilises the R.E.A.D. methodology of teaching that has been demonstrated to work.
Just ask the A-scorers who comprise roughly half the centre’s students. R.E.A.D. stands for:
At JC Economics Education Centre, students don’t just learn theory—they learn to apply it to real-world scenarios, making their essays and case studies far more insightful and compelling. For instance, when studying inflation, students might analyse how rising HDB resale prices in Singapore impact household spending, or compare it with the recent housing market trends in the USA. When discussing fiscal policy, they could evaluate Singapore’s stimulus packages during the COVID-19 pandemic versus Japan’s long-term fiscal strategies.
A strong focus is placed on the Singapore economy, since a deep understanding of the local context is essential for GCE A-Level papers. Students are guided to examine key economic forces—such as productivity growth, trade policies, and foreign investment flows—and compare them with trends in developed economies like the USA and Japan, as well as rapidly developing nations such as China, India, and Vietnam.
This approach ensures that students’ essays are richer, evidence-based, and filled with high-quality evaluations, allowing them to connect theory with current events and policy decisions. The result? Essays that stand out to examiners and significantly increase the chances of scoring an A.
